Monitoring and Reporting
Looking out for INNS and reporting them improves understanding of their distribution and the ability to respond quickly.
If you suspect that you have seen an INNS:
If you have a good idea what the species is, report your sighting to iRecord on the app or website.
If you are not confident in identifying the species, you can send your record to your Local Environmental Records Centre. Find your Local Environmental Records Centre here.
If you can’t submit your sighting through an app or online, the GB Non-Native Species Secretariat recommends that you send a record by post to:
The Biological Records Centre
CEH Wallingford
Maclean Building
Crowmarsh Gifford
Wallingford
Oxfordshire
OX10 8BB
✅ Record the date, time and location (ideally use GPS co-ordinates)
✅ Take a photo of the species (try to take photos from multiple angles as well as close-up)
✅ Note any additional information (e.g., abundance, habitat type, sex, is it dead or alive)
For help with identification, see Links and Resources.
